| Mthembu Tissue Converting |
| After a steady decline over an extended period of approximately 15 years, a point was reached in 2005 where Nampak KwaZulu-Natal - a division of the national Nampak group - was no longer a viable business entity. However, since the business was the primary manufacturer of a variety of paper and tissue products on behalf of the greater Nampak group, the company could not simply be shut down, and an alternative solution was sought. The result of this exercise was a buy-out of the business by a BEE consortium that included a Nampak Group manager - General Mthembu. And so, Mthembu Tissue Converting was born. |

However, mismanagement and underutilisation of land has occurred over the last three years due to a lack of technical knowledge and skills, as well as a lack of an effective business structure. The crisis was that corrective action had to be taken before the soil structure and the quality of farmable land eroded to such a degree that they would be forced to discontinue production. |
